For Anderson, who grew up between the Baltic coastline and the industrial edges of a post-reunification Plattenbau landscape, this tension between nature and the manmade isn’t abstract, it’s simply what beauty looked like where he came from. The glaze does the arguing: a dark, metallic surface that occasionally breaks and blooms into iridescent slicks, the kind of sheen you’d recognize from oil spreading across water, achieved through instability in the firing, glazes reacting against each other rather than settling into a single finish.

Some of the most visually seductive things, an oil slick, a chemical spill, polluted water catching the light, are also the most quietly destructive. Here, a flower, the most familiar symbol of natural beauty, is rendered in a material that mimics environmental damage.
