The ‘Opacity’ series was developed as an exploration of glass and its diverse qualities of transparency, translucency and reflection. Different types of glass are combined to highlight their inherent characteristics and the subtle contrasts between them. The series explores the ways in which glass can reveal and obscure, reflect and absorb its surroundings. Defined by simple geometric forms, the pieces allow the material itself to be the focus, drawing attention to the changing qualities of glass as they shift with the light and the environment in which they are placed. Through reflection, transparency and translucency, the objects respond directly to their surroundings, changing in appearance and at times almost merging with the space around them. In this way, each piece is not entirely fixed, but continually transformed by its context.
