MAJ VAN DER LINDEN presents its summer exhibition, GROUNDED — a collection of objects where material, texture, and form take centre stage. These are works shaped by hand and guided by the quiet intelligence of natural elements: clay, wood, fibre, stone. Materials we live among daily, often unnoticed — beneath our feet, in the trees, in the walls around us.
Here, they are transformed — moulded, carved, woven, balanced — into objects that hold presence. Not loud or showy, but calm and assured. This is work that rewards looking slowly, and living with closely.
Zeynep Boyan’s ceramic sculptures trace soft, organic contours — their surfaces left bare to reveal the full depth of the clay’s natural tone and texture. In Camille Tan’s suspended mobiles, collected fragments of stone and wood find a delicate balance, each piece a small relic of another place, now held in quiet harmony. Jerome Byron works with the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, charring wood into a deep, tactile surface that speaks of fire and protection. Rosana Escobar’s woven textile, monumental in scale yet intimate in its language of colour and fibre, offers a quiet display of expertise and material sensitivity.
Explore these and other works by a wider group of artists and makers, each offering their own thoughtful response to material and form.
GROUNDED is a reminder that good design is more than function. These objects offer a sense of place — of balance, stillness, connection. They hold space, and help us return to it.
