BORIS ZBIKOWSKI

Germany based ceramic artist Boris Zbikowski is guided by an ethos of intuition and experimentation in his work. His hand crafted pieces are produced using a traditional coil-building technique, a process that demands patience, presence and a willingness to allow the work to evolve at its own pace.

Zbikowski develops his own glaze recipes, and often chooses to leave areas unglazed, revealing the raw clay so it may share the stage with the finished surface. This tension and harmony between the two materials defines much of the artists aesthetic. 

With a background in Interior Design and Set Design, each work is crafted with a destination in mind, considering the architecture it will converse with, the light it will catch, the atmosphere it will help create. Nature’s forms, cinematic moments, and architectural structures also influence the work. These inspirations translate into vessels that are as much objects of presence as they are pieces of craft.
