Like amber, held up to the sun.
Anderson combed the beach with his grandmother as a child, certain the next wave would hand him a piece of Baltic gold. It never did. Hers became a windowsill full of them, his a lifetime of empty pockets and good intentions.
So he made his own. Two lamps, hand-shaped in resin using the same technique that skins a boat hull and set on glazed ceramic bases, lit from within like the stones he imagined finding but somehow always managed to walk past. The seams stay visible, amber never comes clean anyway.
Each lamp becomes a kind of vessel for memory, not amber itself, but the wanting of it, the years of searching that never quite paid off. Every one starts somewhere in childhood, a color, a texture, a thing held up to the light, and tries to keep that moment in a form you can switch on. Softness is a decoy: for all their delicacy, the shades are structurally serious underneath, most things worth keeping are stronger than they appear. Lit, they become atmosphere and color thrown across a room. Switched off, they keep their shape and wait.
Grandma still has the better collection. These are his consolation prize
