Hand-crafted in Italy from reclaimed automotive foam, the Makkuro vase features a soft, pliable form finished in a deep black gloss that highlights its sculptural presence.
The material, sourced through Re-Mat, Italy’s first startup dedicated to mattress and foam recycling, gives new life to discarded industrial waste.
Makkuro takes its name and spirit from the magical soot sprites of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away: kind and enigmatic beings made of living charcoal. Echoing their mystery and charm, the vase invites tactile interaction. Each piece is shaped entirely by hand, preserving the raw, alien-like texture of the foam and embracing its natural imperfection.
Through Makkuro, IAMMI continues to reimagine the afterlife of materials, transforming industrial remnants into emotionally resonant, environmentally conscious design collectibles.
