MAJ VAN DER LINDEN and Wohnen AM TACHELES invite you to the opening of Neither Water Nor Land, a solo exhibition by the Berlin-based artist duo Studio Jumi.
Working at the intersection of art, craft, and design, Studio Jumi transforms traditional hand-weaving techniques by incorporating unconventional, often discarded materials into their practice. Bicycle tubes, wool, silk, and cotton are interwoven within raw steel frames, bringing industrial waste into dialogue with natural fibres and raising questions around decay, permanence, and the materials that outlast us. The beauty of the works emerges precisely through these traces of disruption: faded manufacturer markings, irregular cuts, and the unexpected texture of rubber against thread.
The exhibition takes its title from the ambiguous nature of peatlands, ancient landscapes suspended between water and land, preservation and decay, now recognised as the planet’s largest natural carbon store. It is this tension that Studio Jumi translates into woven form, suggesting that honest responses to environmental complexity may begin with the simple act of making.
Coinciding with the exhibition will be the opening of the new MAJ VAN DER LINDEN showroom at the same venue in Stadtquartier AM TACHELES. Presented is a curated selection of collectible design by Berlin-based designers and craftspeople.
