The BumBum series takes its name from a childhood ice cream, one whose translucent wrapper, printed with a square grid pattern, captivated Anderson as a child for the way light passed through it. Decades later, that same quality of glowing, structured translucency became the formal and emotional starting point for a series of handshaped glass fiber lampshades and vessels, made using boat-building techniques.

Despite their delicate appearance they are structurally serious, a tension Anderson considers essential. Most things worth keeping are stronger than they appear.
