The work Tongue is part of an ongoing series of glass objects in which the artist explores societal notions of performance, efficiency, and physical discipline. The form resembles an oversized tongue – red, glossy, sweat-soaked – frozen in glass. Its textured surface bears the imprint of a running track: a symbol of competition, speed, and the relentless drive to improve.
Balancing humor and critique, the series questions the role of the individual body within a performance-oriented society.
Each object in the series is mouth-blown and unique. The series is closely connected to the installation Confronting Careers, serving as a material echo of its thematic concerns.
