VERONIKA JANOVEC
Veronika Janovec’s work engages with the material language of clay to examine cycles of growth, fracture, and reconstruction. With a background in architecture and a deep material intimacy with ceramics, her pieces emerge through processes of reduction, rupture, and gradual transformation. The forms are often suspended in states of becoming—cracked, hollowed, scorched, yet standing. She uses glaze techniques that echo the patina of metal or stone, allowing each sculpture to carry a sense of age—both unearthed and futuristic.
Her work explores dual tensions such as growth and decay, or fragility and resilience. Whether upright and shield-like or softly cracked open, the sculptures reference archetypal forms—vessels, wings, nests—while resisting fixed identities. Through material simplicity and tactile presence, the works invite a close, contemplative kind of looking.
Repetition and variation are central to her process. Fragmented elements are collected, copied, decontextualized, and recomposed into shifting constellations that speak of a beauty nearing collapse—fragile, yet enduring. She is interested in what remains through decay, and in how fracture can reveal a deeper kind of beauty.
Her work has been exhibited in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Montreal, and Mexico City.
